Communicating with Your Representatives

  • Make it personal - A hand written letter is best. If you email, treat it like an electronic personal letter.,
  • Identify yourself — Begin with an introduction of yourself or the organization on whose behalf you are writing and your connection to the Metolius.
  • Keep it brief — one page is plenty.
  • Get to the point — There are many and wide ranging reasons for saving the Metolius. Focus on the one reason that you know well; that is important to your heart.
  • Relate it to home — Help the representative understand why your position is important to his or her constituents. Avoid the use of form letters or generic postcards — use your own knowledge and experience to inform.
  • Allow for follow-up Include specific contact information and offer to act as a resource should the representative or staff have questions or need additional information.
